Hello,
I have a Seagate ST8000 IDE tape drive installed on my Fedora Core 4
box. I know that linux sees it. I had to use the 'modprobe ide-scsi'
command and now I can see the tape drive as st0.
Now for the problem. How do I access the drive as far as saving data
to it or performing a rewind and format? I did search and seen that
the key command for me to use is 'mt'. Unfortunately I don't see it
packaged with FC4 and I've seen it packaged as part of the FTape-Tools
package. I've tried the latest version I could find which was 1.09. I
seen that it's from back in 2000. But after I do the ./configure and
try to do the 'make' command, I get a bunch errors and I can never get
this to compile. I can only assume that version 1.09 is not compatible
with FC4. I did have it working at one time with FC2 but since have
upgraded. Does anyone have another solution for me to be able to
access the tape drive on FC4?
Thanks in advance,
Tom
