What would stop a serious user from doing stuff in Ubuntu?
It doesn't come with gcc and when I try to install it, I hit some kind
of circular dependency hitch.
Then are you a serious user? There are many docs about how to get Ubuntu
to do stuff, and http://www.ubuntuguide.org/ answers all these questions.
If it takes more than 3 hours to sort out, I could just install another
distro. One I can use to do stuff rather than just tinker with.
I'm sorry, but that's SCO-grade FUD. It takes about 5 minutes to
start, and learn to use, Synaptic. Everything from then on is a
mouseclick away. Start something downloading and it's generally ready to
use when you get back from making a cup of coffee.
And Ubuntu only takes about 40 minutes or so to install.
Finally, you're quite welcome to use another distro if you want. But
don't diss people using Ubuntu to do serious work. There are a lot of us.
