Seems that "Bit Twister" has Linux as most people subscribing to this newsgroup.
No matter which of the major shells you are using, both
cd "a a"
and
cd a\ a
works, but what can make problem is that the directory you are in don't have the subdirectory 'a a' or the number of spaces between the two a:s aren't just one, or you have a tab.
Check your location in the filetree and that you spell the subdirectories name correctly.
