Are all (AMD & INTEL) Duel-Core Same?

I am having trouble finding a distro for my duel-core lap-top. I am
wondering if AMD base duel-core distro can be run on Intel duel-core
cpu. My company just gave me this laptop. It's ASUS W5F
Intel Duel Core 1.6 Ghz
512MB Rams
100 GB Hard-drive
DVD +/- RW (Although I am having problem loading DVD-RW on it)
For example: http://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/debian-dvd/
I have found some some distro (see above example) for duel-core,
however, they are made for amd. Does anyone know if it will work on
intel duel core? I have never used duel-core base computer before, and
I don't know which distro would be good for this laptop. I mostly use
Gentoo & Debian, however, I am moving to gentoo base distro. Does
anyone know what distro will work nicely on this lap-top. Also do I
need to worry about battery issue? I will carry this laptop with me
when I am traveling. I would prefer a distro on a dvd version and
torrent link, ftps are very slow with dvd images.
Thanks in advance
