Hi Ray,

I later learned that Knoppix is not installable per se, but it can be saved
to a HDD file and booted from there thereafter. So I don't think I can
install it.

There is an option to install knoppix to hard disk. It does not show in
any of the menus - there is a command burried away somewhere. I believe
the knoppix site should have a note it is something like 'knoppixinstall'.

I enjoyed your site (I viewed it all) and I congratulate you on a productive
retirement. Thanks to a link you provided, I am now also a Registered Linux
User.

I am also a retired software developer, doing mostly military/aerospace
stuff (Lockheed, RCA, Harris Corp., and others). I did volunteer work for a
number of years.

If you don't mind, I found some typos on your site:
o "seb site" should read "web site".
o "can image" should read "can imagine".

Thanks for the note. I recently rebuilt it using the latest standards and
have not spent as much time proofing it as I should.

Hello all,

As some of you know, I have a multiboot AMD system, presently consisting
of
Ubuntu Linux, Windows ME, and three Windows 2000 systems, all happily
coexisting on two 60 GB HDDs. I even have plenty of spare HDD space.

I just got the current Knoppix Live DVD (hundreds of apps). I played
with it
enough to know that I would like to install it and play with it more
seriously. (Retirees do this kind of stuff.)

Any general or specific thoughts on how to do this, or if I can do it?

TIA,
Walterius

I'm assuming that if you start an install it will ask where you want it to
go. I'm also assuming that it will ask before writing the MBR. So my
response would be that yes, it's most likely going to work. Perchance the
Knoppix web site would give a little more info. BTW I retired two years
ago. I'm currently doing consulting and web page development for
non-profits - see www.rcarter.net.
