Because Linux makes use of the disk in a more efficient manner than MS.
Fragments are something technically different in Linux, and it is not
necessary. So far as I know, there are no Linux defrag utilities. 15 years
ago I used to 'defrag' in Ultrix (DEC's early version of Unix) by doing
dump and restores - never made a hell of a lot of difference.
