Download a live-dvd boot it and take a look on it.
If you like linux then download a distri-dvd
Easy handling: Mandriva, Suse, Fedora Core.
You could also give Kubuntu or Ubuntu a go.
Backup your windows partitions. A dump with Acronis or Ghost is best way to
do so. Make then some space free for an extended partition or just buy a
new harddrive. I would say, you might need so about 40gb of free space.
Finaly insert then the distri-dvd and enjoy the journey.
