ati and linux... what are my options

So I've got a pc. Not the greatest gamer PC out there but one that
could fulfill my needs... athlon xp 1800+ and a radeon 9600 pro.

I tried like five or six games in cedega. None worked. Warcraft III ran
fine with -opengl switch but it freezes the PC after 5-6 minutes. I
also tried native quake 4 and it was impossible to play (really slow).

drivers are well configured, fgl_glxgears gives really nice
performance... I give up.

So, I've been looking at my options from here on. I understand they
are:

-VMWare for games without acceleration (maybe worms or starcraft?)
-Xen running XP as unmodified guest, but I'd have to buy an intel
processor for that
-some voodoo work with cedega, which never worked for me
-a bomb on ATI's building, but I don't even live in US!

So

I think xen would be reasonable. Anyone tryed this?

Also, is it possible to get a leaked version of the modified XP to run
it without a special processor?

Or is there any voodoo work I'm not aware of?

Actually, is there anyone able to play games on linux with an ati card?

I'm now using kubuntu breezy with latest ati drivers.

Greetings

.
