Damned Linux installation packages

- Would it be possible to develope a distro with only bare minimum of tools: just minimum kernel, tcp/ip drivers, packet manager and some usable editor. All the rest could be downloaded from the net when needed !!!
- Would it be possible to write a program to translate the program packets from one distro to another !!!
Bill Gates is laughing at you as long as you got to write a different packet for RH, Suse, Slackware, Ubuntu, Debian, Mandrake, Puppy, Knoppix,........
- Would it be possible to have a distro whose packing list isn't a copy from all the other 100+ distros. The only external difference being in the colour scheme ond baground pictures.
I could write a cookbook based on modern distros :
- Take a kernel. Bleeding edge if possible.
- five different editors, including Emacs, Vi and VIM even thoug no customer uses them.
- one or three Office packets. OO or ABI
- three calenders
- network tools for all dead network systems.
- Three FTP tools even though FTP is banned in most systems.
- six MP3 players
- PERL, some C versions. You can leave Basic out, because Linux is for the developers, not for the customers.
- At least four CD burners and some DVD burners.
- A bunch of games - they are allways needed in office and laboratory environments
- three PDF programs
- Mozilla, Dillo, Firefox, Thunderbird, lynks, links...
- At least 5 POP and IMAP programs and mail servers
- Don't forget IRC and CHAT. At least 4 copies.
- Some historic touch: MC is fine.
- a library for all and everything.
The rest is there to make the system functional: Man, Samba, SSH, Joe, SFTP,.. DHCPD, lpd/APSFIlter/Cupps
(I have just spent over 6 hours trying to make a Python program run in a bit special PC: it doesn't have HD. NO success.)
