For the OP, who seems to have an aversion to burning discs and no access to
fast 'nuff download anyway, IMO Dapper LTS is the last resort:

I have this myself, and it's fine IMO, but nobody can expect nirvana from a
single "free" disc like this. Also, I'd not try this particular distro with
anything less than at least i586 (compatible) coupla hundred gHz and 256 MB
RAM.
