It seemed this post would never happen (inside)

First off I would like to thank every one in here for
the informative and insight-full threads.

Hello this post took some time to happen.
I could not get on-line no matter what I tried.
I had the DNS numbers, BIOS checked for serial port
address, external modem, still no luck.
I lurked in here and searched every where I could to
find the answer, finally I tried the obvious, I switched
modems from the Diamond Super Max to a Zoom and Bingo.

I may drop Windows XP because no matter how careful
I am after time, the system slows down and I have to
reinstall the OS.
My after market firewall tells me the OS is trying to
phone home.
Also if I leave for a two week trip and leave Windows
operating maybe downloading or whatever with no re-boot
in that time it may not be a pretty sight when I return.

Ubuntu is the distro I installed and IMHO it is great.
There seems to be a little bit of Mac, OS/2 , & Win.
in the desktop, and the feel of the OS.
I can do any thing I need from within the GUI but the real
power is in the terminal.
I used to have DOS command prompt skills but MS seduced
me with point and click and pretty icons and I got lazy.
I will have to revive my command prompt knowledge and
learn and get used to the new terms.

I may have to change my nym to linux4ever©
.
