At this point I really had it with Windows XP and wantI've been with Microsoft since they started so couldn't wait to get Vista (spit spit, had to get the bad taste out of my mouth) and made the mistake of doing so. It is the worst operating system I have ever used. So I made the switch to Linux. I have been playing with it for over two years off and on but could never find a flavor that I was able to really get along with. Ubuntu seemed to be the easiest to use and it found all my hardware. I had tried Mandiva, Red Hat, Fedora, Suse, Mepis, Freespire, and a couple more that I can't remember. I downloaded Ubuntu 7.04 Beta and it was great. It found all my hardware, even my new Intel 965 motherboard (which none of the rest could work with). And surprise of all it set my home network up without any hassle at all. That was a first also. I went to TRY to set my network up (never had any luck with that before) and it was already done. Amazing. Anyway, for me, Ubuntu is the way to go. Even more import is the fact that they are releasing the official 7.04 today so you wouldn't have to use a Beta version. I could EASILY let it do a almost automatic update (I have been told) but I'm going to download it and go from scratch one last time. Ubuntu uses the Gnome desktop which I like but they also have a version for the KDE desktop which is known as Kubuntu. I think it is a little more powerful and just as easy to use. It also has a little more of the Windows look to it. Both versions can install the other also from the same CD. Which one you download only makes a difference in which one is set up at first. You can get them at www.ubuntu.com . They will be a little busy for the next few days so you may have a little hard time getting into their site.
to make a switch to Linux, problem for me is that I see
many Linux distr. kits some free and some not.
What Linux kit is the best to use when switching from
XP to Linyx OS?
I see that Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 is posted is this any good?
If not where can I otherwise download the right Linux OS?
TIA
Gerben
Wishing you the best with Linux.
