Re: Like to switch to Linux

Thor posted this gem. Seriously... :

Apart from not having a root login. There is little difference that I
can
see between the two except for the anal retentiveness of ubuntu. Some
ubuntu fans will tell you that the likes of automatix makes things
better, it badly broke one of my boxes when I did use it, getting the
graphics and sound back to a useable state was not easy after it had
finished with the system. The anal decision to hide the root tree from
users in 6.10 was what finally drove me away from it.

Heh Well, I guess that would stop newbies from doing any damage but,
personally, I find the idea insulting. Seems like you are one that
-doesn't- recommend Ubuntu. <grin>

Not any more, found it too restrictive. Yes you can enable root, but to my
thinking you shouldn't have to. Actually disabling root in ubuntu does not
stop newbies from screwing their system because the first user has sudo
powers using their own password. I think the only possible thing that
ubuntu has over real debian is a live option iso. Debian 4 is a good solid
distro and certainly does all I want to do with my computer with less
hassles and complaints than ubuntu.
