I created a /home partition on the drive when I did a clean install of 7.04, and even had to re-install 7.04 after some mucking about (long story there...) and having a separate partition for /home was a lifesaver. It seems that most distros have given up on partitioning the drive for an install, and it makes sense to keep documents and application data away from the OS, regardless of which OS you are using. On Wed, 09 May 2007 09:45:23 +0100, john hansen wrote:

6.06 first? If so does that mean that all my settings and programs
are lost?

one step at a time. So you'd have to upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10 and then
from 6.10 to 7.04. You can do that all online.
Thanks for that comment. Now I just need to find out how to upgrade from
6.06 to 6.10 and then to 7.04. You say I can do it online but how?
Advice would be most welcomed.
TIA.
John
My system had problems after upgrading to 7.04. Lots of crashes, and when
using apt or synaptic there would be errors. I would recommend a clean
install. You do have you /home folder on a separate partition?
stonerfish
Negative.
John
Good luck!
