xubuntu & canon pixma 3000 printer

Hello,

My usb canon pixma 3000 printer is not recognised as "a piece of hardware" in sysinfo (also added software ...) xubuntu 6 lts.

xfce print dialog cannot add a printer and printer manager neither.

I need extra software, I suppose? To be able to add a printer?
The printer itself is said to be supported (on linux sites) on linux.

Any suggestions?
