Hi
I have a SandDisk mp3 player. I am using is in a MSC mode --- like a
usb drive. I am able to upload song on a it but that's about it.
I need something that can upload & download songs from my mp3 player &
sync it like I want. Plus I need to cread some Multiple playlist -- I
mostly listen to audio books so it's kinda important. Any advice
would be helpful
try amarok
It's one of the worst application in Linux world. Download this,
configure that. I am not a newbie, and nor I am an expert, but I can
compile a new kernel, configure my Linux distro, and run it without
anyone's help. So I say it with an experience it is a very bad
application. It's a string of bad decisions on top of other bad
decisions. Cohen & Stein (Amarok creator) constantly create major
screwups by deliberately enabling ultra-experimental stuff and
apparently never learn from it. I really wish people would stop using
this garbage.
It is a ressource hog. I won't argue any of this.
I'll give you an example. I mostly listen to audio books. Now I try to
add my audio book collection to Amork -- sound like a bad Jewish name
like many others.
Amarok is the Inuit word for "wolf".
This is vot happen; It added mp3s on sub folder -- and prime sub
folder!!!
Amarok sorts your collection after artist and album. You can change the sort
hierarchy with a mouse click.
Three chapters of eight different books are listen in one
list (which I can't modify!). Plus I can not cread play list for nor
can I remove default play list -- plus it keep asking for my root
password!! Why?
This does not make sense. You should be able to create a playlist. It should
not ask for any passwords.
Also trying to connect to some unknown website!
Maybe it is trying to download the lyrics. It does when you click on the
lyrics tab. It also tries to download the artist's biography from wikipedia
if you click on the artist tab. Other than that, unless when listening to
web streams or podcasts, it should not download anything.
I
quickly uninstalled this horrible Apps. We should not have to go
through this "learn cruve".
There is only the first setup, when you have to configure the look, the
collections directories, the backend. After that, it should be easy to use.
Of course, it reads ID3-tags and vorbis info from the files you add to your
collection, and these are often far from correct. Having to edit the
metadata of your collection is very inconvenient, especially when you have
no database backend, and the mp3s don't have id3-headers, in which case it
is even impossible.
Anyway, I will be using winamp windows' application to creat playlist
and load them like a usb drive. I was hoping to remove windows from /
dev/hda1 and format it as ext3 -- but I guess I'll have to have two OS
in my laptop.
Sigh
I only suggested amarok, because it integrates transfer to external devices.
It is not the only program you could try. `apt-cache search playlist`
returns 119 results.
xmms should be an apt replacement for winamp.
one size doesn't fit all.
Oh, I really don't like any of this!!! I use to have this SI Player
(cheap chinese USB MP3 player). These used to have this folder broswer
features.. I would turned on my mp3, and browse my folders... Pretty
cool.. I really wish I can get something like this with AA or AAA
battery + 2GB or 3 GB.
If anyone know any decent mp3 player of this sort let me know...
