recently i intalled windows xp again in C:\ with out formating the C:\
drive, i has just deleted the windows folder from c:\ and installed it
again. so now linux is not running, the linux OS is existing in hard
dirve but not working. i was using GRUB boot loader. i want to recover
it again plz anybody help me, how do i recover it. thanks
When I used RedHat (this works finr on CentOS, Fedora and other siblings),
I booted from the install CD (DVD works too), at the prompt wrote: rescue
When the system asks if you want to mount the system from the hard drive, say
yes. When you have the shell prompt, type: chroot /mnt/sysimage /bin/sh
(check the path, for the sysimage, may be called something else, quite long
time since I played with RedHat)
Now type: grub-install
after you get back the prompt:
exit
and:
exit
and the rescue mode should terminate itself and reboot the computer, take out
the CD and you have back your grub.
