I have read the description

Kubuntu is a user friendly operating system based on KDE, the K Desktop
Environment. With a predictable 6 month release cycle and part of the
Ubuntu project, Kubuntu is the GNU/Linux distribution for everyone.

but I don't understand it. How does it differ from ubuntu?

It's the same OS (AFAIK)
Just uses KDE rather than Gnome

Thanks for that, I have been wondering what Gnome is.

KDE offers just a better looking interface (requiring faster hardware) is that it?
