Hello,
I am a Windows user who wants to experience and learn the Linux
environment. Where do I start? Where can I download the O/S?
Thank you,

As the other folk have mentioned, start your search at distrowatch.com.
There are currently about 360 active Linux distributions. There are quite
a number of Live CDs about - you can boot and run one of these from the
CD (or DVD) without even doing an install - helps you get a 'feel' for
Linux with no investment. Suggest you start there. Several of the major
distros come as a combination Live CD and install CD - they will boot as
a Live CD and you can find an option to do an install on the desktop.
Ubuntu works well that way, and it is one which many folks start with
(and some stay with for years). Basically, if you choose something from
near the top of distrowatch's 'hit page rankings' you will probably not
have difficulty.
