Hi all,

I just want to get your opinions on this.

I loved KDE3.5 but KDE4 looks a bit iffy... It seems less customizable than
the previous versions.

KDE4 is still at beta stage, hopefully it will have most of 3.5 core stuff
ported in version 4.3. There are sadly regressions in KDE4, like the control
center has been dropped for a less user friendly OSX clone made by the guys at
kubuntu.

I am thinking of upgrading to FC10 but it only
comes with KDE4. Of course, I could compile and install KDE3.5, but that's
just moving backwards.

Surely not, it's selecting to have tools you want. To make it easy, download
the latest source rpms for Fedora and rebuild those, then you have them
installed with the rpm command and you will have everything installed the
right way and everything is compiled with the options you are used to have.

What's your take on KDE4 vs the latest GNOME?

It's a long time since there was a gnome release, think ti was 1.4.5 or
something that was the last Gnome that ever was released, then came Havoc
Pennington and stupefied the end users with his Gnome2.

Gnome2 isn't more useful than KDE4, and it do look even worse than Gnome did
(damn I had better anti alias support for fonts, themes was more beautiful for
the eye and you were allows as user to configure everything and it had the
right order for cancel/ok buttons and you had the freedom to use which ever wm
you wanted, without been forced to install the worlds crappiest one, which
happens to be the default for Gnome2).

What am I giving up by moving to GNOME?

Your freedom to configure up your desktop.

I really miss the ability of having different images for each desktop from
KDE3.5. Also, KDE4 main menu is to much of Vista for me to handle! ;o)

You will find microsoftXP things in Gnome2, which ain't better, no matter if
you have the macos order on the cancel/ok buttons.

If you want something you have full control over, think small, like ctwm.

KDE 4.1 is beta?
