Hi

I use my cranky old laptop for testing stuffing. I am dual booting it
with Kubuntu Linux. I was wondering if I could use this to run a web
server.

These are the spec.

P4 - 2.2Ghz
1 Gig of ram
160 Gig of HD (partition)
OS Linux Ubuntu (old version from early 2008) / (Windows XP SP3)

The hardware should be more than sufficient.

PS: I am very much use to kde 3.5 style, and I was wondering, if there
is a new version of kubuntu running on 3.5, if not I would rather
install gentoo provided I can use my fav GUI, and also it's perfect
for my outdated hardware.

At the moment Debian Lenny still has the KDE 3.5. Lenny will eventually be
followed up by Squeeze but appr. minimum for a year still be supported. That
should give you enough time to wait for a KDE which might be worth to use..
Also I (it looks like like many others) found that GNOME is a good
alternative now. Ok, I do not really the gtk styles etc, but is is very
reliable and you can configure it to your needs. xfce might be interesting
too.

I give it a try. Way back when I first started with linux, I tried
Debain long time ago, but I gave up b/c their installation was bit odd
for me, not to mention 3 or 4 CDS. I went for Conectiva -- Brazilan
distro based on redhat. I will download debian dvd, and also gentoo. I
think I've gain enough experience to try that bad boy :)

I now use Debian Squeeze on my pc and I like it. I cannot really say why,
but I prefer Debian instead of Ubuntu, but of course that is a question of
personal preferences.

With that laptop: Just do it, it will work.

Dirk
