The most common cause for this is probably a broken download, nothing
more. What kind of a connection do you have? DSL, cable, modem? Modem
connections are in particular susceptible to this kind of problems. Or, if
RH limits its demo accounts, you could try setting your system to run
up2date at a non-peak hours automatically, if you feel adventuresome. It's
not that difficult, have a look at /etc/cron.daily, for example, also man
cron, man up2date.

You could also try downloading the needed rpms (if there are not that
many) from http://rawhide.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/9/en/os, and
installing them "manually", either by typing (as root) `rpm -ivh
<name_of_package_file>', or double-clicking them in Nautilus. Remember to
run `up2date -p' afterwards so that RHN server knows of the packages
installed into your system.

There are also other package management systems, but I'm not very
well-versed in them; I've heard apt-get and synaptic have many proponents,
but I've also read many questions on configuring them, so I'm not sure if
they're very newbie-friendly.
