Hi

I'm new to Linux. I installed RH9 a few days ago and have a few
questions. Hope any of you can give me some idea.

1) Modem support: My laptop is a Compaq Presario 700. There is an
internal modem from Conexant. Linux didn't detect it at all and I
haven't found the Linux support for that modem. (I'm on home LAN
connected via ethernet, so I have no problem for the Internet. But
losing the ability to dial-up permanently is a sad scenario:)

2) File association: Do you know how to set mplayer as the default
handler of avi, mpg, mpeg, etc? Right now there's no application
associated with these files and I have to open mplayer first and then
manually select the files, which is a bit annoying. I tried the file
associaiton set-up but don't know how to do it.

3) In the ext3 format, is there also a concept of "bad sectors"?

4) Is there a Chinese input support available? I need to type
simplified Chinese from time to time.

Thank you for your advice.

Ricky
