ati hardware acceleration

how do i figure out if redhat linux 9.0 has hardware 3D acceleration
installed for my ATI Radeon 64 Meg DDR video card?

WHen I click on "System Settings" and then "Display"
and then on "Advanced" ... "Enable Hardware 3D Acceleration" is checked
but when I run Enemy Territory (which required 3D Acceleration) it
claims that I don't have it (acceleration).

is there a command that I can type into a terminal to check to actually
find out if acceleration is or is not activated?
