And now for something completely different (revised)

At this moment I have a home-network that's build up with one server
(Win2000 Advanced Server) and several workstations (Win2000 Professional).
My knowledgeis such that I can get around in Windows-world above average. As
for Linux: I have as much experience with Linux as a just-born baby, zero!

But, I know there is hope for me, 'cause I really would like to permanently
switch towards Linux and relocate my MS software towards the eternal
(external?) computergrounds..... I have seen some screenshots and read the
information on the Red Hat site and.... well, it's very tempting...

And since it's so unkown to me, any advice would be very useful (don't what
to invent the wheel again) so I'd like to pop the ultimate
question: what's the best way to proceed from here???????

Several things pop into mind (in no particulair order) that scare me a
little (it's always scary in the dark you know):
1) What to use, KDE or GNOME? These are included in the Red Hat 9 distro.
2) How to deal with my internal network (currently used as a file- and
printerserver), I'd like to switch over completely (both workstations and
the server). Couldn't find clear info (yet) on how to setup the server...
3) How about virus-protection and firewall? I have been told a firewall is
built-in, but what about virus-protection?
4) What about drivers (heared some negative stories)? Not all equipment is
of recent build (e.g. Voodoo2 card, Canon FB310 scanner) so that might be a
problem (replacing?)...

I'm probably not the first one with sweaty hands who's crossing into the
unkown, so any guidance would be very welcome!!
All your opinions and thoughts on this subject are welcome, no matter what!!

Thanks a lot!!
