Hello,
I have an Actiontec PCI Lite v.92 modem and from what I understand
Actiontec is one of the few winmodem manufacturers that 'supports' linux. I
have RH9 installed and from the hardware probing it looks like RH picked up
the modem. Unfortunately, when I try the Network Configuration tool it
probes for a modem and says it has not found any and selects a generic
modem. I found some instructions online and I did " cat /proc/pci " and the
contents of the file are:
PCI devices found:
Bus 0, device 0, function 0:

It says that the modem is:
Bus 0, device 5, function 0:
Modem: PCTel Inc HSP MicroModem 56 (rev 2).
IRQ 10.
I/O at 0x2080 [0x20bf].
then, as root, I typed in:
setserial /dev/ttyS3 port 0x2080 spd_vhi skip_test auto_irq autoconfig
[Enter]
a message came up saying something, something "engaged"
then I typed in:
setserial /dev/ttyS3 uart 16550A
I also then added the two setserial lines to my rc.local file in the rc.d
directory.
I restarted the system and went into Gnome and back to the Network
Configuration Panel. It still picked up the generic modem but atleast this
time I was able to "Activate" the connection. Too bad it didn't dial
anywhere. I double checked the number, the DNS numbers, and everything. I
selected /dev as ttyS3 and the slected "None" where it said, "Hardware"
"Controller" or whatever.....
On a side note, under Windows 98 the modem is hooked up to COM 2
So now after all this, what do I do to connect to the Internet? It said the
connection was "Active" and I deactivated it too. Can anyone help me out as
to what steps I need to take to connect? I did a search on RH9 and I'm
still looking for the answer..... TIA
JT
