hi guys

i have installed rh9 on a compaq evo n600c, however have not been able
to get the machine on the network.

the network card is being reported as a:

"82801cam (ich3) pro/100 vm (km) ethernet controller"

I have an BT asdl internet connection with 5 allocated ip's i can
asign to machines. I am trying to connect the machine directly to my
router which also acts as the gateway and dns server. This works fine
with windows2000 machines (i'm running a webserver on one of the ip
addresses) and have never seen any issues. I also have a windows2000
machine on the same ip as the rh9 box i am trying to get running.
(they are never on the network at the same time of course)

i am able to configure the card, eth0, with ip information :

ip : 217.46.197.161
mask : 255.255.255.248
Bcast : 217.46.197.167
gateway : 217.46.197.166

and the card comes up cleanly at half-duplex (the gateway/router box
is at 10mb)

i can ping localhost, 127.0.0.1 and also the machines ip,
217.46.197.161 and its hostname. However when i try to ping anything
else either IP or hostname I see a message saying that the
"Destination Host Unreadchable"

If i unplug the network cable and plug it into the windows2000 machine
which has the same IP setup everything works okay.

however, on the rh9 machine, I am not able to ping anything other than
the rh9 machine itself.

If i restart the network daemon, everything looks good. A "dmesg |
grep eth0" also comes back with what I would expect:

"e100: eth0 NIC Link is Up 10 Mbps Half Duplex"

i see no error messages, and everything looks like it should be okay.

any ideas ?

cheers
A
