Good morning, fellow listers,
Now that it's the Labor Day holiday, I've had some time to myself to
complete installation of Redhat 9, which I downloaded, per Jim Fischer
and others' suggestions.
The ISO images burned perfectly and I was able to begin installation. As
a recap, I have a new 160 GB Maxtor hard drive, connected to a separate
IDE 133 card, because the motherboard BIOS does not support drives
beyond 137 GB. I've also installed a separate 46 GB IBM drive, as a
slave, connected to the primary IDE connector on the motherboard.
The system BIOS recognizes this second drive, but not the first. (When
the machine boots up, the IDE 133 card sends messages to the screen,
indicating all is being recognized properly, however).
The installation problems are these:
A few screens into the installation process, (selecting the first option
- a home or personal machine installation, NOT workstation, server,
etc.), a message comes up on the screen asking if I want to overwrite
"the drive". I don't know what drive it's referring to - the 46 GB slave
or the 160 GB master and am reluctant to hit the key, for fear that
Win2k and all my software/data will be overwritten.
If I go further, I select Custom, which brings up Disk Druid, which
shows the master 160 GB drive, but not the 46 GB slave.
I am a bit apprehensive about proceeding, anticipating disaster.
Also, just before I get to the screen asking whether I'd like
Home/Personal, Workstation, Server or Custom installation, the mouse
pointer disappears.
What do you all think?
