I did some searching trying to find something about this, but it does look
grim. I did find this though:

Don't know if that will work for yours, but you can atleast check if the
device you have matches the one described in that guide.

There is also http://www.linmodems.org/ but I'm not sure how much
information you can find there about ADSL modems. Worth a look though, I'm
sure.

Anyway, the best thing would still be to buy an external ADSL router
instead. All you need then is a supported ethernet adapter, which means
pretty much any ethernet adapter on the market. I'm not sure how much
those routers cost, but I can't imagine they're too expensive. And the
tradeoff is broadband in Linux, which makes maintaining your installation
a hellofa lot easier, but I suppose you've understood that by now :)
