I have a P333 running W2K that is acting as the host for my small home
network as well as providing the internet connection for the net. The
host normally runs W2K but I want to use RH9 instead.
My setup:
Host
- eth0 connected to cable modem
- eth1 connected to a switch (hub)
Clients (3 Windows boxes)
- WinXP connected to hub
- W2K connected to hub
- W98 connected to hub
- DHCP enabled on all
The problem:
I can ping the host from all the Win boxes and the host can ping them
fine. The host accesses the internet properly but the clients cannot
nor can they ping any external addresses. I've disabled the Linux
firewall with no change. I haven't tried manually setting the IP
addresses for the Win boxes yet - would that make a difference if
pinging is working?
I've done a Google search but I haven't found anything that has fixed
the problem (perhaps I'm not asking the right question?). My Linux book
vaguely discusses IP Masq and setting IP tables but no real details to
provide me with a way ahead.
Is anyone aware of a good, clear webpage that discusses connecting Win
machines through a Linux box that is providing the "ICS" capability? Is
anyone running a similar set up that can help me out?
