Yeah, I have the everything setup right in the account settings. I have my
pop3 host as mail.<my own fQDN on this machine>.com, outgoing SMTP as
"localhost", and even setup an account for my ISP email with pop3. No dice,
the thing does not work at all. I then tried to go into the account settings
and delete all the accounts, in case something was wrong with them and start
over. I highlight an account and press the "Remove Account" button and
nothing happens at all. Now I cannot even remove an account if I want to.
I tried deleting the .mozilla directory and figured that I could start fresh
this way (Actuall I just moved it to the trash so that I could put it back if
this ended up being a bad idea.). Now trying to start mozilla or mozilla mail
gives me a profile manager window. I have to select the profile to use from a
list, make a new profile, or delete what ones I want. My name is in the
profile box so I choose that one and the "Start Mozilla" button is now no
longer greyed out. Pressing this button does nothing at all. Mozilla does not
start and the profile box does not go away.
I created a new profile called "Default User" and tried that one. Cannot use
it, the profile manager box does not go away and mozilla does not start.
Killed the window but I do now have a .mozilla directory again and there is a
default user in there. I start mozilla again. It starts up. I get the new
account wizard and try to cancel it. Cannot cancel it, it does not go away. I
setup an account for my ISP mail and I am finished. My new mozilla mail is
just the same as it was before, nothing works.
Right clicking on an account in the left pane and then choosing "Get messages
for account" makes the status bar on the bottom say "Connect: Host contacted,
sending login information..." but that is it, nothing happens. There is
nowhere to put your password, nothing. It just stays like this. Cicking the
online icon in the lower left corner of mozilla mail does nothing. Bummer.
Mozilla Mail really does not work at all.
This mozilla was all installed by rpm, maybe the Redhat rpms for mozilla are
broken or something? Maybe if it were installed from source it would work,
the problem is that redhat rpms and dependancies make installing something
like mozilla from scratch just about impossible. Maybe I will try firebird as
it can run from it's own directory and does not have to be installed. I
cannot imagine Mozilla Mail being broken this badly. Mozilla cannot be broken
like this or no one would or could ever use it. This is a real shame because
I really do like the new Mozilla web browser.

I use Outlook Express because it actually *does* work and I also use
scripting so that I can stream music and video into my emails to my family.
They get a kick out of receiving an email with a video of me, right there on
the page, with no controls or anything "ugly" in sight, playing away. I
upload the video.wmv file to a web server, (My own linux box actually,
running apache.) and the script makes the video stream right onto the email
page. I also use scripts in email to make real music play sometimes,
streaming from a wma file, not crappy midi sounds for background music. I
also use scripts for fancy text and image effects in the emails, they are
quite spectacular, although for general email, I just use plain text like
everyone else. Nothing else will run scripted email to such a degree like
Outlook Express. Not even Outlook.
Maybe Mozilla is better for you and for everyone else, but for me, it does
not work at all, in any way, shape, or form. :(
Thanks for your reply Jeff.
