    It sounds more like an issue with how you mount the shares on the remote
    machine. Have you mounted them in a way that a specific user, or other
    users, have certain permissions? (I didn't quite work that out from
    your supplied information.) Though I do recall having issues with how I
    shared things with the smb.conf file, as things were being shared out to
    "other" users (seemed to be how Samba worked), and the other user
    permission bits weren't set right.

    Are you sharing resources between different types of file systems?
