I'm having problems following what you've written. You've lost a
"connection"? What are you referring to by "connection"?
Generally, you'll find the devices run in this sequence:
/dev/hda Master drive on the 1st IDE port
/dev/hdb Master slave on the 1st IDE port
/dev/hdc Master drive on the 2nd IDE port
/dev/hdd Master slave on the 2nd IDE port
However, if you have a system where you can swap things around in the
BIOS, that might confuse things. Mine did that, when I rearranged the
boot order in the HPT interface's own BIOS.
What do you mean by installing to another drive? Another disk drive as
the master on the 2nd IDE port, or did you plug it somewhere else during
the installation? (Ending up with your /etc/fstab file pointing to
another device, when you later move the drive.)
You might want to post the output of: fdisk -l (it'll show us all your
drives and partitions). Likewise, post your /etc/fstab file.
