Trying to compile and install my first kernel - much too soon for a
newbie to be doing this ;~(((
Task was to update RH9 2.4.20.8 to the 2.4.22 I downloaded from
kernel.org. After some adventures I have fallen at 'initrd' The system
(Intel D845pebt2) boots from a SATA drive so needs initrd unless I can
figure out how to get scsi drivers loaded before anything else. mkinitrd
seems to want the Firewire module but this is not present in 2.4.22 Not
seen at all in menuconfig and grayed out in xconfig.
Here is the error message for mkinitrd
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
> [root@localhost linux-2.4.22]# mkinitrd ./initrd-linux-2.4.22.img 2.4.22
> No module ieee1394 found for kernel 2.4.22
> [root@localhost linux-2.4.22]#
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I get out of this? Ideally I would like the firewire to be
installed but for the moment I would be pleased just to get a new kernel
installed and working. Yes I know I probably should've used 'up2date'
but I wanted to look at the SATA support in 2.4.22.
Thanks
Rod
