Install the ftp server if you want to do this, by default since ftp is
considered to be a security risk Red Hat no longer installs/configures an
ftp server.

There are a number of GUI front-ends to cdrecord, some use X-CD-Roast
while others like K3b and still others like.....
Since you say you have RH9 installed then try using as root the
X-CD-Roast, form the console or xterm session type; xcdroast.

You don't need to setup a Samba server to copy files from the RHL9 system.
Why don't you mount a share from the Windows-XP system with your RHL9
system and copy the files.
