Hello -

As a real newbie to Linux, I downloaded the 3 .iso images for 9.0 from
Redhat and burned them onto cd's. I was able to load Linux fine on an
older Dell PIII-500 w/40g hd at work (not a dual boot system) so I
know the cd's are fine.

I just installed a 2nd hd on my home pc - Dell XPS T750r w/256m ram,
10g main drive w/Win98se and an 80g 2nd drive that I want to partition
into 40g for windows and 40g for Linux.

I put the 1st cd in the cd-rom and boot the pc, it finds Linux and I
prompt it to begin the install, it loads vmlinuz and begins going thru
it's installation and hangs. Here's the last few lines just before it
hangs (I didn't write down all the particulars for each line but I can
tell what device it's finding):

hdc ... info info info Sony CD-RW
hdd ... info info info LS-120 Floppy Drive
hdf ... info info info Matshita CD-Rom
ide0 ... info info info on irq14
ide1 ... info info info on irq 15
<hangs here>

So I'm guessing it's finding all the different devices on the pc and
something is causing it to lock up at this point.

Is there anything I can do to determine what is actually hanging up?
I've tried various command line switches when booting up linux but
nothing seems to work. Any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot
this? I even created a boot floppy and tried to boot from that but no
luck. It always hangs at the same point.

I know there's other flavors of Linux available but we're
investigating using Redhat as our OS for an Oracle Applications
install so I want to stick with the Redhat version.

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions given.

Peace,
Steve
