i tried to install RH 9 on Virtual PC 5.2, but every time the same
error occured...
when anaconda started, Virtual PC fooled it into thinking my card was
a S3 Trivia something. So it had no problem with that. But it couldn't
probe the monitor, so it said: "Monitor: unknown". But RH was
installed okay (graphical install)..
then i had to choose video card type, so i chose S3 Trivia something,
just like Virtual PC 5.2 instructed me to. Then at the monitor, the
chosen option was unprobed. At the first install i left it like that.
At the second install i changed it to what my real monitor is (HITACHI
something, which i don't remember right now).
THE PROBLEM:
RH boots okay it executes some programs etc. but the when it tries to
open the GUI (either GNOME or KDE or whatever) it just shows a screwed
window with a 16x64 mouse (which doesn't move) etc. etc... in a
nutshell, all screwed.
when i do Alt+Ctrl+F2 (as instructed) to go to command-line, it goes
there OKAY. BUT! Even though i type, nothing is being typed. the
cursor doesn't move and the mouse's like broken.
Any help?
Only thing i could think about so far is that Virtual PC 5.2 is old
for RH 9... but V-PC 5.2 was released @ 2003 so it can't be SO SO SO
old.
PS. I will install RH 9 into a real partition next-week. i just wanted
to test it in a virtual pc now. just wanna know suggestions in case i
get the same problem with another OS.
BTW: V-PC works fine since i properly installed a Win2k and it works
fine.
