Hi!

Im running RedHat Linux 9.0 (with a custom kernel) on a Compaq Presario
2132EA laptop. I tried getting hdparm running, but came up with the
following output:

[root@RHL9 sysconfig]# hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
  setting using_dma to 1 (on)
  HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
  using_dma = 0 (off)
[root@RHL9 sysconfig]# hdparm -d 1 /dev/cdrom

/dev/cdrom:
  setting using_dma to 1 (on)
  HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
  using_dma = 0 (off)

I'd like to know whether this indicates lack of hardware support for DMA
or lack of kernel support for DMA.

Thanks.
