Okay, I am a Mandrake user simply because that is what I got familiar with
on my first version at 6.0. However, I was really considering switching to
RedHat so I could learn the distro that is more main stream and doesn't
have alot of the custom stuff like Mandrake (special k menu, different
apache, etc..). I know Fedora is now the user RedHat linux. I have
searched and searched through Google and these NGs but have not found
enough information to convince me to ditch Mandrake for Fedora.
I see alot of posts about the bleeding edge but Mandrake is one of the
world's worst for bleeding edge so I am not too worried about that. I mean
I can manually maintain the apps I use to keep them stable. I would like
to learn the RedHat world but want to make sure that Fedora is a good
ghost of RedHat linux with just a little bit less stable due to current
releases.
Ultimately how much difference will there be between Fedora and RHEL down
the road do you think. I am a web developer on MS products and
technologies and trying to learn Java, PHP, and sharpen my skills on Linux
and Servers. You don't see too many Mandrake servers and I don't know how
much difference there would be between managing a Mandrake server vs a
RedHat vs a Fedora server.
I would like your opinions if you feel it would be a good move to ditch
Mandrake and enter the Fedora world in hopes of learning some RedHat
technology. Oh by the way I have RedHat 9 cd set I downloaded just never
got the balls to wipe Mandrake and install it.
Thanks for any help and advice.
