parport_probe: failed ??

Hello everybody,

I am trying to configure a printer attached to an old PC
running RH7. dmesg gives the following information:

parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP]
parport_probe: failed
parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present

I tried to fix the problem by changing par. port
modes in the BIOS but in vain. Is there a way to make
Linux see the par.port?
