How old is that (as in it's copyright year)? Anything more than a year
may not be up to date in everything. (Though some parts, like the
shell doesn't change as fast as the rest)

As far as I know all recent versions of redhat have had three cds (+
source and documentation cds). If you have unmetered internet and a cd
burner I would recommend you download a new release, and burn the cds.

If you don't I would reccommend you find someone that does, and
convince them to download for you.

Since your book covers redhat you should probably go for either redhat
    9 or fedora core 1.

Is your computer capable of booting from a CD? Most newer computers
are, and this simplifies installation a lot. You may have to change
the boot order in your bios to enable this.

Also all distros I'm aware of have bootable cds.

Are you sure you are using the correct disk? If you are then it seems
that your book isn't up to date with it's CDs. If you choose to use
those CDs you will have to look for documentation on them. A good bet
would be to look for a file called README or INSTALL in the root of the cd.
