What a crap, this Fedora core 1.

Have been using red-hat 9.0 so far, and I must say, it worked a hell
    of lot better than Fedora.

During the installation of fedora my networkcard (smc) wasn't
    recognised.
tried another card, this time a 3com 3c905.
Even during setup of the NIC some strange characters appeared on my
screen when I entered settings like ip address, subnet and gateway.
But the biggest problem is that I can't ping outside my subnet.
I can ping "localhost"and i can ping the IP-address of my nic, but
when I try to ping another NIC on the same subnet I get :" Destination
    host unreachable".
I haven't installed the firewall, and my network settings are:
    subnet 255.255.255.0 ip adress NIC = 172.16.0.3
default gateway = 172.16.0.1 (this is a Smoothwall broadband router)

    What could I check ?
