I'm not certain what you mean by that. DirectoryIndex is supposed to be
the search list for the index page in the webroot directory.

Yup: (a) check the weblogs (b) check the apache documentation - comes
installed with apache. And (c) patch IIS to the hilt and check the
logfiles CAREFULLY for any evidence that non-ordinary files are trying
to be accessed.
