php & gd & coppermine

I have a RHEL3 server. I have just installed Coppermine Gallery. It runs
ok except when it must manipulate images, resize, etc...
error
PHP running on your server does not support the GD image library, check
with your webhost if ImageMagick is installed

rpm -q php = 4.3.2-8.ent
rpm -q gd = 2.0.21

I tried installing gd-2.0.21 and php-4.3.6 as source, however
php -v = PHP 4.3.6 (cgi) (built: May 23 2004 11:43:41)
yet phpmyadmin = PHP 4.3.3

I also tried removing the originally installed rpm's php and gd
packages, and there dependant packages, aswell as restarting apache, but
this did not change anything.

Can anyone please help, as i really need to get coppermine working for a
customer.
