Hardware acceleration

I was wondering what it would take to get the hardware acceleration to
work for my Nvidia card. I have a Geforce 2 card and when I tried to use
the current version that was at the Nvidia website, the system locked up.
I would like to get game functionality as well as better control of my
video modes as well.The current driver is not loading the glx extensions
to the Xlib and I was looking for the next step. I had already noticed
that the XF86Config file had been replaced by the Xorg.conf file and it
looks a lot like the old file but some of the other functions are missing.
I would also like to know how top get the full functionality of the

buttons on my Logitech Mx500 mouse so that I can use it for gaming as well
