In Suse linux there was a tool called xmodelines which would generate a
valid modeline using desired x and y resolutions and refresh rates.
Not sure if this was unqiue to SuSe as I cannot find it on google, however
the site below allows you to input your desired resolutions and calaculates
accordingly:

By the way some of your cross posting newsgroups are non-existant or I
