Somebody please help me, This is driving me crazy. I just recently put
Fedora Core 2 on a machine on my home network. I'm using a Linksys 8
port switch and a Netopia Cayman router to share a ADSL Internet
connection between 5 computers, 4 are win2k and the 5th is my Linux
box.
Getting the Internet to work on my Linux box was way to easy, but
sharing files is seemingly impossible. I know that I need to configure
Samba to have my Linux box exist on my home network, and to that point
after much reading - looking, reading - on and on and on, trying and
failing and reloading fedora core 2 several times - I have used the
following to configure smb.conf with.
[global]
workgroup = workgroup
netbios name = Linux
server string = Samba server
interfaces = eth0 192.168.1.x
socket address = 192.168.1.x
security = share
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_KEEPALIVE IPTOS_LOWDELAY
bind interfaces only = true
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
[full]
comment = all
path = /
hosts allow = 192.168.1.x
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes
guest account = nobody
admin users = nobody
when i use my win2k explorer I see
Linux samba server
localhost samba server
when i click on wither of these i get a window with
\\ Linux is not available
the network path not found
can ping all address both ways, but neither system transfer either
way?
Can someone help? All I want is to be able to share files between
Linux and win2k. I don't wish to set up any kind of server or anything
although I know of Linux's potential. I don't have any domains at home
just a win2k workgroup called... "workgroup" Its essential that Linux
is a client because I already have all the printers, scanners etc
setup and working under win2k although I would prefer it to be an
integral part of my home network, other then just to hold some extra
box with files. Any help you could provide would be great.
I've checked out as much documentation as possible but without much
luck as most of them involve making Linux into a server on the network
or require that I have an IT wizard standing around.
