Yes. Or a daemon, if I may not be wrong. I'm sure you know you have
to substitute for "server" the name of the service you want to
restart. For example,
[root@home /]# /etc/init.d/alsa stop
stops the alsa daemon, if it is running.
By the way, we have an "Exchange E-Mail" server at our university
that runs 24/7. There is usually no-one on weekends to attend to it;
in case of a power surge or power outage, the server goes down and
stays so for the rest of the weekend.
