[snip remainder of 4x posted message, up to this point]

There are folks who would be more than willing to help, had they the
experience to share with you that you seek. Personally, I had to go
back and sort by thread to see that yes, you started a new thread with
"Re:". While I didn't think it an offense worthy of public correction,
someone else did. If you're unfamiliar with newsgroup etiquette, please
familiarize yourself with it - otherwise, you open yourself up to
responses such as the one you received.

Now, when you start multi-posting the same message over and over, you do
nothing but annoy us other peace-loving folks. Contrary to what some
people think, reading the same thing over and over does not make it more
effective. Those of us who have been reading here (and posting
occasionally) for some time know Mr. Lutus as a very regular poster, and
one that can provide succinct, yet accurate answers to problems.

Now, I've also seen that Mr. Lutus is very quick to pounce on those whom
he doesn't feel have done their homework first (via Google or man
pages), or those that post generalities for background information, but
seek specific answers. (Specific answers require specific information.)
His style is much different from mine, but unless there's something I
don't know, he gets paid the same to post here as I do - zilch. And, as
with everything in life, you get what you pay for (and with Usenet, it's
often worth every penny). That's why Red Hat can charge what they
charge for RHEL. You want courteous customer service? Pony up the $$$
RHEL.

Regarding your original question, I haven't used a modem in years, so I
really don't have any preferences to pass along.

(And you don't really think Mr. Lutus's e-mail address is
nospam@nosite.zzz, do you?)
