I've burnt the gentoo universal LiveCD
(install-ppc-universal-2004.1.iso) and booted up thinking that I would
get a GUI so that I could run this graphical linux app for a class, but
all I get is the text prompt.
Q: Do I have to install gentoo + packages (i.e. KDE) in order to get GUI
functionality?
Q: Are there any other linux distros for new world mac that have a
LiveCD which includes a GUI or 'windows manager' as I think linuxers
call it?
Q: Can I read/write any of the data stored on my hard drive from the
LiveCD gentoo prompt? What are the commands?
Q: Any linux distro can only be installed in a completely separate
partition from my Mac OS X right? Is it good to assume that
uninstalling merely involves wiping the linux partition (i.e. no linux
system files will ever touch my Mac OS X partition)?
Q: Where is the Yellow Dog Linux newsgroup, if it exists?
Thanks for all of your help,
